What’s your overall income-generation strategy?

Making money on eBay can be a thing to do as a hobby, or as a way to support yourself. You can sell anything you want on this site, and in most cases people will pay for it. After all ones mans junk is another mans treasure. But the real question is “How do I go about selling it?”

Anyone can make an auction page on eBay with basic text and a few pictures. But what really makes an auction stand out? Well first of all if you’re using themes for your page you have to make sure they match the item. Selling a game system with a flower theme bordering your auction page might not net many customers.

Then you have to factor in the colors of your page. Believe it or not the right colors can make a person stay on a page for those few seconds more to consider buying an item. Next you have to provide all the necessary information about the item in a clear easy to read text format. No one’s going to want to stay on a page that they have to squint at to read.

Then you have to convince your potential eBay buyer that this item is something they need. Capitalize on the good features of the product, and in your auction ask what potential buyers might do with it. Asking this can make them stop and think “What can I do with it?” This gets the creative side of people’s minds going and in some cases just might make the sale.

It sounds more complicated than selling a car but in these tough times you need to offer the sale from every possible angle. Most eBay buyers enjoy having free shipping available in a purchase. They may go out of their way and pay up to 10% more for an item with free shipping than an item with paid shipping. Even though it’s more expensive the free part always convinces people that they are getting a better deal.

Of course there’s nothing wrong with selling items this way. You simply need to learn to make your sales pitch to the receptive part of people’s minds. Nowadays they want something that’s durable, long lasting, and valuable. These are the areas of the item you want to emphasize the most.

Again, take the game system for example, most people will pay top dollar to get a new one off the site. However many people are fine with paying a reduced but reasonable amount for a used one. As long as it’s still in working condition and can do what they want they will buy it. Even if there are many cosmetic blemishes they will still buy it. Many people have abandoned the need for perfect looking products and go for used products that still work fine.

If you’re looking to make some extra cash, or a potential living then you might want to give eBay a try. You can clear out your closet and attic and find some rare things. That old box of electronics that might not be worth anything in trade in might be worth hundreds to someone else. Remember everything is valuable to someone and they are willing to pay to have it.
